JOHOR BARU: THE SME BizFest 2012 Johor Baru attracted more than 500,000 participants from the business community during its two-day run at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre recently.
The participants of the nationwide roadshow's Johor-leg comprised small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) that require information and communication technology (ICT) solutions to improve and enhance their business operations.

The event is the second of three stops for SME BizFest 2012 after its Penang stop in April.

The last stop will be held in Bandar Sunway in Selangor.

The highlight of SME BizFest 2012 was the launch of the new Telekom Malaysia (TM) BizApp, an online application catered specifically for the business community and SMEs.

The application was launched by a "spaceman" who was none other than Telekom Malaysia  Bhd SME executive vice-president, Azizi A. Hadi.

The TM BizApp store is exactly what it sounds like -- a store that provides business applications.

  It's a self-service portal for cloud-based applications and software.

Cloud-based applications provide free or low-cost alternatives to expensive, proprietary productivity tools.

The browser-based applications are accessible for a variety of computer and mobile platforms.

This means these applications are available anywhere the Internet can be accessed.

The creators of TM BizApp store believe that SMEs  can reduce their capital and operational expenditure with the new service, as they need not purchase any commercially available server to run the applications.

At the same time, SMEs will stand to benefit because TM  developed  the product to be specially tailored for them.

Currently, there are various applications available in the TM BizApp Store.

This includes applications for sales and marketing, human resource, collaboration, finance and accounting, and customer relationship management.

TM group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, who was not present at the event, appeared "virtually"  in a futuristic-looking hologram  to  launch the event.

He interacted with Azizi in a video-conference,  amazing the crowd  impressed  by the  state-of-the-art presentation.

Azizi urged new SMEs to carve a niche for themselves by embracing the latest tools in ICT.

"TM is more than capable to cater to the entire SME segment.

"With its extensive infrastructure, latest technologies and reliable partners, TM is able to offer tailor-made solutions to fit unique requirements," he said.

TM's  latest products and services were  on display at the event.

The entrepreneurs and guests  present also received a hands-on experience via  technology demonstrations.

There were  also free consultations from TM experts.

Besides being a platform for networking among the business community, the event  also  served as an avenue to explore offers by TM partners, and promote closer rapport between TM and its customers.

SME BizFest is aimed at gathering as many SME businesses under one roof for the purpose of business networking.

It also aimed to keep this business sector well-informed on the latest developments in the sector.

Azizi said   the SME BizFest would hopefully encourage more SMEs to learn  about how ICT  can greatly benefit and enhance their respective businesses in whatever sector.

There are two options for subscriptions to the TM BizApp Store.

The first is via prepaid (pay per use). The second is via postpaid (fixed monthly subscription fees).
