PWTC, Kuala Lumpur - Bio-45D machine, a research product by Tuan Haji Mohd Salleh bin Tahar, Encik Khairul Fahmi bin Ali and Encik Mohd Kamil bin Ahmad Tajuddin from the Faculty of Technical Education has made us proud by winning two gold medals, including a gold medal for the A category (machinery) and another in the Best Award category. The Bio-45D machine is among the ten best products out of 460 research and innovation products being contested in the 8th Malaysia Invention and Innovation Award in conjunction with Malaysia Technology Expo 2009 (MTE 2009).
The three-day expo provides a platform for all public and private institutions as well as various agencies in Malaysia to show their dominance in producing and developing new research and innovation products using the latest technology. The event held at the Putrajaya World Trade Centre starting from 19th to 21st February 2009, was officially launched by Y.B. Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
With the determination and courage to help solve the problem of the community in Parit Raja that relies on the production of kerepek, Tuan Haji Salleh and his team of researchers have invented the Bio-45D that can convert used cooking oil into high quality biodiesel fuel. Using this machine, waste vegetable oil is filtered and processed to produce diesel that can be used in any conventional diesel engine on the road today. This machine is also able to solve the problem of river pollution in Batu Pahat which occurs when the cooking oil used to fry kerepek is drained into the river.
Other UTHM researchers have also shown their great potentials in producing quality research products when they bagged three silver medals and eight bronze medals. This achievement proves that our research products have high commercial values and are able to give a big impact on the development of the community and country.
Congratulations to all the winners. It is hopeful that this success will inspire other researches to produce more quality products that can contribute to the benefit of the community.
